About Me

"In 2020, as the world was coping with the challenges of COVID-19, my family and I made the decision to move from Florida, where I had lived for 15 years, to Elkhart, Indiana, my place of birth. At the time, I was working as a delivery driver for a large pizza chain and doing car audio work on the side for myself and friends. After we moved, I struggled with personal challenges and was feeling overwhelmed by the uncertainty in the world. As a result, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go back to working for someone else and making their dreams a reality. Instead, I wanted to focus on pursuing my own goals and interests.

Once in Indiana, we needed some extra money and had to free up some space, so I decided to list some items on Facebook Marketplace, including some rare speakers I had obtained. Having had some years of experience in audio, my ads must have stood out because I soon started to receive messages from people not interested in my items, but in my knowledge. One of these messages was a request to build an enclosure, something I had only dabbled in up to that point. Although I had built maybe six enclosures, I wasn't a professional by any means, but I was enthusiastic to take on the challenge. Using tools I had, as well as some that I borrowed from a family member, and after doing a lot of research, I made a design on paper (before I learned to use CAD to design boxes). I proceeded to build my first enclosure as a novice acoustical engineer. The box turned out looking good and working well, although it wasn't perfect. I still had lots to learn (and still do to this day), but I had done it.

This event would be the start of my deep dive into acoustical design, and of my journey into treating my hobby as a career and forming Team Huayra Designs. Since then, I have gone on to design and build many enclosures, including some that have been used successfully to win trophies in competitive arenas. Below, you can find examples of designs and builds that I have completed during this time."
